Children and Youth at Christ the King

Christ the King offers weekly Christian education for children and youth ages 4-13, in addition to nursery care for children under 4.  Sunday school begins at 9:45, and ends with the children joining the rest of the congregation for Holy Eucharist at 10:40.

For ages 4-7, we offer Godly Play, a Montessori-based curriculum that engages children’s imagination and sense of wonder, as they learn the great narratives of our faith.  Take a look at www.godlyplayfoundation.org

For ages 8-11, we offer Sunday School based on the Children’s Chapel curriculum.  Children continue to engage with the stories of Scripture, as well as learning about the liturgy and traditions of the church, using discussion, art, role play and other activities.

For ages 12 and 13, we are starting a Rite 13 group.  This is the first two years of a six year curriculum called Journey to Adulthood.  Adult mentors facilitate discussion and activities designed to help students explore their faith and their emerging adulthood.  For more information, go to www.leaderresources.org/j2a

The nursery is staffed by two capable teenage babysitters:  Lucy McGinty who is starting her fourth year on the job, and Alison Boyer, who joined us earlier this year.

In addition, Christ the King offers a special children’s service on Christmas Eve, an Epiphany Pageant and Stations of the Cross for children during Holy Week.  In the summer, children can participate in vacation bible school and youth have the opportunity to go on a mission trip.  There are also many opportunities for children and youth to serve in the various ministries of the church, as acolytes, lectors, helping with parish clean up days, cooking and more!
